Step-by-step Instructions

Barrel Nut Installation

Included Parts:

Additional Tools/Items Needed:

  • AR-15 Upper Receiver Vice Block and Vice
  • Screwdriver
  • Torque Wrench
  • Breaker Bar or Socket Driver
  • Anti-Seize Grease

WARNING: The barrel nut should be installed by a competent gunsmith

Barrel Nut Installation Steps:

1. Apply anti-seize grease to the threads of your upper receiver.

2. Insert barrel into the upper receiver making sure that the index pin on the barrel fully seats into the upper receiver.

3. Hand tighten barrel nut onto upper receiver.
4. Place assembly into a proper upper receiver vice block setup.

5. Set torque wrench to 30 ft.-lbs. of torque and attach the crows foot wrench onto torque wrench.

6. Torque barrel nut to 30 ft.-lbs.
7. Loosen the barrel nut using a ratchet or breaker Bar.
8. Torque and loosen the barrel nut 2 more times.
9. After the barrel has been torqued the final time attach the barrel nut alignment jig to the barrel nut using the included nylon screws. You will want to position it such that the spring-loaded pin will fall into the gas tube hole as you apply torque. (There is a video on the site that clarifies this step further).
10. Set torque wrench to 50 ft-lbs. This is to ensure the barrel nut is not over-torqued.
11. Apply torque until you feel the spring-loaded pin in the alignment jig engage the gas tube hole of the upper receiver.
12. Remove the alignment jig. You are now ready to install the handguard.

Handguard Installation

Note: This will be after a gas tube and a gas block have been installed.

Handguard Installation Steps:

1. Slide handguard over the barrel nut. (Note: this may take some hand force to get it onto the nut. The fit is meant to be tight.)
2. Install all the screws half-way to ensure alignment.
3. One at a time remove the screws, apply a couple drops of thread locker and reinstall them finger tight.
4. After all the screws have been installed finger tight with thread locker applied, tighten each screw down. Do not exceed 40 in.-lbs.
